#AMBIGUITY

A client recently asked, "๐‘ช๐’๐’–๐’๐’… So, I decided to share my story. โœ๏ธ

Leaders often face ambiguity and uncertainty when decisions are made, changed, redirected, and repeated almost weekly. It dilutes middle management's and employees' trust ๐Ÿคจ because they will sense a numbness to the directive over time. By embracing ambiguity and adopting the right strategies, leaders can guide their teams through uncertain times, fostering resilience and innovation.

Here's my story! A
#customersuccessmanager reporting to me said, "๐‘ฉ๐’†๐’“๐’, ๐‘ฐ ๐’˜๐’๐’–๐’๐’… I thought, Holy Crap! Time to do something.

The organization was going through its third restructure. Goal setting, key performance indicators, and metrics were in a holding pattern with the new leadership. As the saying goes, "๐“๐ก๐ž ๐’๐ก๐จ๐ฐ ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐†๐จ ๐Ž๐ง!"

I looked at the previous two quarters and made two lists: What measurements were working, and which ones were not. Then I asked the team how they felt about certain metrics we could add for the current quarter, and which ones we would make less of a priority.

Most important, what was the goal for the quarter? And, how would that align with the company's revenue posture? I quickly put a one-page business case together and circulated it among my peers. With just a few changes, we bonded like the ๐Œ๐€๐‘๐•๐„๐‹๐’ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Œ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ๐ž ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐š๐ ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ and executed!

Leading through ambiguity is a crucial skill for any leader, enabling them to guide their teams successfully in uncertain times. By embracing a clear focus, communicating transparently, encouraging collaboration, and leading by example, you have the open floor to inspire your team to thrive in ambiguous times.

It's through these challenges that leaders have the opportunity to flex their resilience muscle ๐Ÿ’ช and grow within their organizations.

Don't say, "I don't know" ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ
Say, "Here's what I do know" ๐Ÿ‘

Don't say, "When I have an answer, I'll let you know" ๐Ÿšซ
Say, "What are your thoughts about solving this issue?" ๐Ÿ‘
