Are you a leader who creates more leaders?

All the years I thrived in the Corporate space, I often considered the management team and the different leadership styles bestowed upon me. When I have a change in leadership, I tend to revert to learning mode.

I would be the first to reach out. Shocker! I would always have my list of questions. I am forever challenging the status quo.

That is me. πŸ˜

Looking back from the early years of my corporate career and certainly not armed with the different leadership styles, I had my personal "label" for leadership styles, which grew over time as a default mechanism. Some were:

πŸ“Œ Only an argument would be effective communication.
πŸ“ŒSupportive, experienced, I'm learning stuff.
πŸ“ŒTransactional, pass-through, little value.
πŸ“ŒPositioning a challenge of growth, investing in me.

Here's my story.

At a crossroads between employment and a job role change with a major tech company, a former manager suggested I help him with a problem. He managed a team supporting the customers using our software.

Due to a recent acquisition, the customers were more than upset with the changes, and the Account Managers were open to new ideas on how best to maintain their long-term relationships with their customers.

I went into discovery mode and gathered as much information as possible from each account manager and several customers. Then, I developed an interactive in-person training.

Over the coming weeks, I surveyed the Account Managers and asked them what was working and where issues still needed to be resolved. As the story goes, Customer Success was slowly taking root for our team.

The moral of the story here is, as a leader, "If you see something, say something." πŸ‘€ The intuitive nature of a leader can always set the spark. It's up to the receiver to "catchπŸ”₯fire."

➑ Revert to learning mode. By being open to learning about a new leader's style and expectations, you can set yourself up for success.
➑Challenging the status quo. If you are willing to question how things are done, you can help your team find new and better work methods.
➑"If you see something, say something." Communication is essential, and intuitively seeing the strengths in others will positively impact the individual's performance and the team's goals.
